Day 25: The funniest thing now is that when Lilly enters the whelping box which is now only their bed, we have taken the front off to allow them to leave, they all run and jump and hang onto her teats, even before she can lie down. They all dangle from her with very little success feeding because they can’t reach fully; it is a very comical sight. Picture included below and I will post some video this weekend.
Their weight has increased considerably, with the majority of them all being over 5lb’s Mr. Blue, who has been named PDogg from his new owners is just under. 4 out of the 6 have been taken and the change in names so far are:
The first stage of house training is to enable them to leave their bed and go to the toilet outside their living quarters, and whether they actually do leave to go to the bathroom. We took the front of the box off and blocked off around the utility room to allow them to leave their bed. They ran out of the box to explore when I took the front off immediately they were very intrigued. We put an 8ft piece of wood next to the whelping box which blocks them in but allows them to stand and look over. We put a shower curtain on the floor then paper on top which allows them to go to the bathroom outside of their bed. They all straight away started using outside which is a very encouraging first stage. As soon as they have fed they leave and go to the bathroom, they sometimes even run out quickly as Lilly approaches to feed them. We also started them on solid food. Puppy kibbles mashed up with water and fed to them on a plate. We use our finger to start them off and then they lick from the side of the plate. While at the same time, walking in it and getting it everywhere, when they feed on solids and then have some milk from Lilly to finish off they get very full quickly and sleep instantly. Lilly enjoys cleaning the mess up and the food is full of calories, with her still nursing is good for her to eat. Their first round of worming was done with the second round this coming weekend, it is not a pretty sight but it has to be done. All their eyes are open but they have not fully focused yet, they should all be able to see fully by 41 days. You can tell who has clearer vision as they watch you move and when you hold them up and talk to them you can see they are looking at you. They all have great looking eyes so we know there is nothing wrong it’s just focusing that is being developed. All of their character traits are in place now. You can tell who is the explorer, Mr. Blue, who is the most affectionate, Ms, Purple, and who is the most vocal, Mr. Red everyone has a personality. All of them can hear perfectly and Ms, Yellow has unbelievable show qualities. More updates over the next few days. |
